Bear Creek Arkansas

Bear Creek Arkansas is a tributary of Big Piney and it has some great whitewater. The short run is best done in high water with a kayak. Experienced paddlers who know creek environments will like this run.

The region as a whole is loaded with great creeks and rivers for rafters, kayaking and for fishing. It’s water rich with some clear, cold and pristine environments to explore.

Rapids and Float Notes

Bear creek has about 3-4 miles of solid Class V with some potential Class VI water that will require a portage. Scout before you drop into anything blind here. Downed logs and hazards can change year to year. The town of Harrison is a good base for floating here. Dover is also good with some sporting goods and outdoor stores in case you need any gear.

The Moore Outdoor Store in Dover might help with a shuttle. 479-331-3606. They also rent boats for the more tranquil Big Piney float.

Apparently several local families also will run shuttles in the area. If you’re desperate, check with the local stores and cafes to track down a shuttle driver.
