Rapids and Float Notes

Narrows Park to Conglomerate Falls – This is a popular stretch and it has a nice beginner to intermediate appeal. The total run is a hair under 8 miles with Class II-III+ rapids. Just enough to be technical and fun without being overwhelming for newer paddlers.

Norman to Beard – This street to street run is easy and scenic with a mix of urban and semi-forested where eagles and osprey are prevalent. There is one portage at Ford’s dam but the overall float is very easy and runs around 5 total miles.

Urban Run – You can float casually into Port Huron by launching at Fort Gratiots North River Road Park and stopping just about anywhere in town. A very mellow 4-5 mile float is possible without any major rapids.

Black River Michigan Fishing

This is one of those rare rivers that has just about everything imaginable. You can catch catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, pike, muskie, whitefish and the list goes on. Chasing brown trout, brook trout and rainbow trout is also great here. The river has a spring run of steelhead and a smaller fall run of king salmon. Timing the runs is critical but the river can have great rewards for anglers pursuing migratory species. Resident trout live higher in the river system and migratory fish move throughout the system.
