Floating, Fishing and Ausable River Camping
The river has a few sections to consider for floaters. Each has a different look and all are pretty friendly for canoes, kayaks and rafts. The most popular section for floaters is the Ausable Chasm and for a very good reason.
Few places offer such a deep and narrow canyon to explore by boat. Most trips depart from Table Rock, immediately entering the deepest section of canyon. A few rapids and maneuvers await and the entire trips is one of the more scenic you can ever experience.
Go beyond the floating and try fishing for trout. The river is a famous trout fishery and fly fishing is a popular approach. The fish are notoriously selective and the hatches are consistent, making the river a good place to test your dry fly skills. Some large brown trout are caught here every year as well.
When you visit the region, camping is a good option for lodging. Tent and trailer parking are available at multiple convenient locations. The Ausable River Campground offers options right by the water in Keeseville.
The Ausable Point campground is located in the small town of Peru and the Ausable Pines campground has great spots for RV campers with hookups and services. It’s an ideal location for those wanting a place to camp for longer periods as well.
