Rapids and Float Notes

South Fork of the Boise Rafting – This stretch begins below Anderson dam and goes to just above Arrowrock Reservoir for a total of roughly 15 miles of rafting. The conditions change year to year and you should always check with a local before heading out. It used to be a class III run for the most part and changes developed a few Class V sections. That can easily change again in a new water year.

Mainstem Boise River Rafting – The main river has over 70- miles of flows on it’s course to the Snake River. A large portion of this has pretty much no floating happening which means there is opportunity if you can figure out launches and shuttles. The most popular section runs right through town and it gets hammered by rafters and casual tubers. From Barber to Ann Morison Park is the standard route and thousands of people share this non-technical run throughout the summer.

Shuttle Services

Boise River Raft and Tube – They are the only shuttle service that we know of and they primarily run through town. You can rent a tube from them as well.

Fly Fishing the Boise River

The South Fork has great fishing as well and outfitting is not allowed on the river. That means no guide competition on a great tailwater fishery. You can float and fish or wade. A road follows the river and access is excellent.

The mainstem also has quality trout fishing and some seriously big browns that are not often caught. You can fish right through town or go explore sections of lesser fished water on the long river system. The lower river does warm up a bit and trout habitat is best in the coldest sections of the Boise River.
