Striker FLEXIT Headlamp Review

Both of my Walmart bought headlamps had taken a dive within a few months on the road and I badly needed something more reliable than a cell phone flashlight. My parents were meeting me in Costa Rice and they brought down the Striker Flexit 2.5 model headlamp. A few months later and it shows no signs of slowing down and is my regular outdoor light source in South America. I use a Luci Lamp in the van.

Features:

250 Lumens
Wide Angle Flood and Spotlight
Comfort Fit Foam
5 Lighting Modes
Flexible Position
Weather Resistant

Headlamp Performance

This thing is super bright with 250 Lumens. I don’t know exactly what that meas but it must a ton of lumens because the spotlight is excellent. The cool thing about the headlight is the side bar floodlights. They expand the view by casting a wider light. The headlamp has 5 modes and you do not need to use these extra lights but they are nice when you want a wider field of vision.

I had lost sight of Shale dog at a Colombian campsite and feared she had made a move for a nearby chicken house. She is a notoriously sneaky chicken killer. The high beam with the floodlights illuminated a big area and I caught her before any damage was done.

The padding is very comfortable and doesn’t leave an imprint on my head. Fits over my hat really well which I love. It also comes with the 3 AAA batteries so it’s ready to use right out of the box.

Favorite Features

This is a small thing but I love that the light does not accidentally turn on when it bumps around a pack. My other headlamps failed because they had an ultra sensitive power button and they would easily engage in my pack. This one remains easy to power on but you aren’t likely to light up a dark pack. It’s also easy to turn off by simply holding the power button for a few seconds.

I also like the battery placement. I had one overpriced headlamp that was extremely difficult because the fragile battery compartment was tricky to access without breaking the plastic clip holding everything together. The Striker battery pack is separate from the light and it sits on the back of your head. Easy to replace the batteries without damaging the light.
Things I Don’t Love

The main light is flexible and you can adjust the angle but it does not hold in a set position. The problem is easily solved by tipping my hat a hair to help hold a downward angle when needed. It will flex but when you need a steady downward angle in a hands free environment, it only holds the position for a few minutes. Not a major problem and it also means the light has fewer moving parts that can wear over time or flat out break.
